It’s difficult because you need people who can deal with bullshit and not be swayed by emotions, and the people who do that the best have near-sociopath low levels of empathy. I think we need to be more selective with respect to things like character when choosing candidates for that job. So there is a problem with cops but it’s not a racism thing, it’s a case of a lot of people are cops who really shouldn’t be cops. There are plenty of incidents involving white people as well. There are plenty cases of unnecessary excessive force but the narrative is that it only happens to black people. It’s bad enough the standards by which we allow people to be cops is so damn low. They’re the ones “just following orders”, apprehending people for things like selling goods on a livestream, alone, because it was “technically” operating a business during covid restrictions, even though the doors were locked. A LOT of them get their authority fix preying on harmless people. I’m not saying we should join the BLM rioters and start yelling ACAB - what I think is wrong with the cops, and the solution to the problem is different than what leftists think is wrong and how they want to fix it.Įven at the state and local level, cops are still the enforcement arm of the government and can still be turned against you. This whole thing seems like petty small town boomer drama and the cops obviously overreacted but still could be justified in investigating for what could end up being harassment, libel or even conspiracy.
